This tutorial teaches you how to create reverse applique designs using your Hatch Embroidery Software.

In this tutorial, we use a design from our ESA Initial Mono 50mm Font pack.

Step 1: Digitize > Square > Outline Run Stitch. Make the square 100mm

Step 2: Select the Square > Select Reshape > If the Start and Stop points are in the corner, move them to the center.

  • Hatch 3 has a new feature and will place a red dashed box around the object being Reshaped. Press Escape to release this feature.
  • The first square will be the Placement line

Step 3: Duplicate the Square 3 more times

Step 4: Select the second square > Change to a Backstitch. This square will be the Tackdown line.

Step 5: Select the third square > Change to a Satin Stitch > 5mm wide > Uncheck- Auto-Split

Step 6: Change the Underlay Settings to 1- Double ZigZag 2. Edge Run

Step 7: Select the last square > Change to Single Motif > Kite01. Change the color

  • Hatch 3 has a new feature that places a gray square behind light-colored objects so they can be seen better on the Sequence Docker.

Step 8: Unlock the Motif Size > Change all to 5mm

Step 9: Add your favorite Monogram to the center of the cocktail napkin.

  • I used the ESA Initial Monogram 50mm font and resized it to 70mm. 
  • John will always have the smallest recommended size in the name of his ESA fonts.

Supplies:

  • 2 Pieces of Water Soluble Stabilizer- Hooped
  • 1 Piece of mid to heavy weight fabric
  • Thread
  • Scissors

How to Stitch:

  1. Stitch the placement line, stop your machine, and lay the fabric over the top.
  2. Stitch the tackdown line. Stop the machine and trim the fabric away close to the tackdown line.
  3. Stitch the remainder of the design.
  4. Carefully trim the excess stabilizer away close to the satin edge.
  5. Rinse the remaining stabilizer away. Dry flat.
